JOURNAL: 1998 BMW Z3 2.8 Roadster [UPDATED: 6th May 2011]

My new re-padded and recovered steering wheel just arrived!

SPEC:
(*) Padded
(*) Black perforated leather sides
(*) Black plain leather top and bottom
(*) Beige stitching

It looks, feels and smells great!! LOL! - can't wait to get it fitted!

The final piece turned up yesterday - the ///M badge for the lower part of the steering wheel. I had thought about leaving it off/plain - but decided it belongs on the wheel and gives it a finished look...

Fitting was interesting to say the least - as you can see the badge has 2 thick plastic prongs which lock it into place:





Fitting the badge is quite fiddly - you need to feel through the leather for the indentation of where the badge sits and then I took a thick sewing needle and gently pressed through to get the location of the holes. Once the location of the holes was established - I then rotated the needle in a circular fashion to enlarge the holes slightly. I then offered up the badge and pressed it firmly down into place (making sure it locked). Job done!

INTERIOR MAKEOVER CONTINUED
My latest purchase is a Windblox Wind Deflector. I've came to the conclusion (or rather the wife has!) that a wind deflector is an absolute must as I think the novelty of being whipped in the face with her hair has worn off! - I've read various reviews and considered going for the mesh OEM type - but in the end decided to go for the clear solid type. After a bit of research it soon became apparent that the market leader for these types of screens is a company called Windblox based in the US - not to mention they're cheaper (including shipping) than some of the inferior UK based products.

I settled on the following configuration:

Material: Lexan
Straps: Clear
Tint: Clear

Thought the car looked quite good tonight (after a days effort cleaning!! ) and under the artificial light - only had my iPhone with me so apologies for the crappy quality!

My latest purchase for the interior is a Doug Whalen hood release handle in anodised black:



Should be a lot more substantial than the pony plastic stock items which are prone to breaking..

Been playing with my new camera so decided to take some pics of the car as it was look relatively clean today and the weather wasn't bad either!:

Just got back in and decided to try the camera out in some lower light conditions - plus the roof was down and for a convertible - I've just realised there is a lack of top down pictures in this thread!! LOL! - you can also see the rear shocks/coilovers in some of the pictures which I thought was pretty cool!:
