If you wondered what a plasma screen looks like ...

After moving my plasma to the children's room, it literally exploded a few days later. Had a look on the web and with Pioneer, it seems that the power board is weak.
Pioneer charges £350 for a board, and £75 fitting. Got a new board from ebay for £139, so not too bad overall.

Does the replacement board look to be of reasonable quality?

According to the Pioneer website, this revision is a much better one then the one I had before. If the board breaks in the first 3 years of ownership, they replace FOC as they acknowledge the weakness. Mine was older then that, so they tell you to kindly bugger off.
Dario - I am not enjoying dismantling everything, but throwing a perfect good product away (such as the PS3 and this Plasma) because it is not economically viable to repair it by third parties does not go down well with me. This screen was £4k when I bought it almost 6 years ago and would be worth £400 if I tried to sell it now. It is HD though as it is a monitor (read PC monitor Mr Tax man).

I think you have made a mistake here Paul. This is the gods of retail therapy telling you that the plasma TV that you have had for over 3 years, now needs replacing. They do understand that while it was actually working, it was difficult to justify a new one, so they justified it for you, and sent you a message/thunderbolt via the power supply thingy, by burning it out.
I know this to be true, because I too once had the same attitude as you and ignored the gods of retail, but not for long, they are not tolerant!! They started to insert "WTF springs" into all mechanical and electrical devices that I bought. These are the springs that serve no apparent function other to boyooung out of the unit, sometimes along with a couple of other dubious pieces of metal. They CANNOT be re-inserted and the unit ceases to function completely.
My I suggest that in future when contacted by the gods, you take the unit and put it in the secret lair of the gods, otherwise known as "the loft". If the gods are kind, they will fix it in the loft, or over a period of time erase the pain from your mind. When it comes time to move house, you will open the door to "the loft" and ask yourself, "why the f**k did I keep this sh*t?". The gods will then smile gently upon you.
