iPhone App: Cockpit Recorder

Post by pangster »

I got round to buying this application for my iPhone yesterday - I've got to say that I think it's pretty good.. especially considering it only cost £1.79 - I already had a screen mount with a camera cut out I bought from eBay for the sat nav programme I use for £3.99 - so for a grand sum of £5.78 I now have in car recording capability which overlays GPS map, speed and G-force.

Here's some screen shots of it in action:

The only slight annoyance I have with it at the moment is that you can't export the video (but they have promised this function in future updates though) - but I figured for £1.79 for the app then you couldn't go wrong as stand alone systems which perform similar functions are >£300 GBP..

Thought I'd mention it on here as I know a lot of peeps do track days/run outs and auto cross and if you already have an iPhone then it's a fairly cheap in car recording system!

For info this is the windscreen mount I have:

not the best quality as I only realised after this video that the phone wasn't 100% secure in the cradle so there is some extra vibration there which wouldn't normally be there! - future releases/updates will support export and direct YouTube uploads according to the developers

Thought you were heading off to the RBS Protest Camp there

It's amazing what these phones can do now :)

The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it.

Lol!!! If I did it would be in something like a JCB or tractor to try and take out as many of the dirty unwashed scum as possible!! Half of them don't even know why they're missing Jeremy Kyle!

The ironic thing is that if we weren't As wealthy as we are (like most Western capital societies) then we wouldn't have half as good a welfare system we do and hence they wouldn't get their Giros or have freedom of speech to express their views!

But back on topic!... The app is pretty cool and decently priced IMHO! will be TONS better when you can export videos directly!!

you'll be doing well to find a track day company who will allow suction mounts to be used on track.

Ive only posted what I use/have at the minute.. there's quite a few different mounts out there and I'm sure if someone wanted to make an alternative clamp mount then for £4 or so they'd have a decent starting point. The point of my post is that if you already have an iPhone and are interested in in-car recording then for a couple of quid you can't really go wrong.
