My 2006 3.0si Z4 warranty is due to expire on the 27th of this month, it is 4 years old and is currently under a BMW Approved Used car warranty.
I received a nice letter from BMW offering 3 levels of extended coverage, basic drive train, £30pm, drive train + electrical system, £35pm or full for £39pm (or £420 for the year paid in full). I assume this will include Road side Assist.
As the car has done a mere 11000 miles and unlikely to cover more than 3000 miles per year does anyone consider a BMW Warranty (or Third Party for that matter) a worthwhile expenditure.
I took out the BMW extended warranty on my motorcycle on the unbiased advice of a BMW technician friend.
Any views ??

Re: BMW Extended Warranty ???
My philosophy....
Provided your Zed is NOT your daily drive and you don't do many miles in a year, take that £420 and stick it....in a savings account every year.
IF anything should go wrong with the car, use that little nest egg to pay for it. If nothing goes wrong, which it shouldn't with such a cherished low usage car, you're quids-in!
If your car was an ///M (with higher risk of failure and parts prices), was your only way to get to work, or high annual mileage, you might consider the risk to be too great.
The 'savings account' method has worked for me for several years now, and I even manage to pay for servicing out of this. You just have to be disciplined enough to put the money in (at what would be warranty renewal time) and not touch it for anything else! This is why it's best to open a dedicated savings account.
BTW, £420 seems pretty cheap. My 3.0i Z3 was nearly £700 per year about 5-6 years ago. They must've reduced their level of cover immensely since I last used BMW Insured Warranty.
And don't forget that Extended Warranty covers far fewer things than 3 year purchase warranty....
Good luck!

Re: BMW Extended Warranty ???
My 335d turned 3 years old in December and as it had done 43000miles and with an annual milage of about 18000, I decided that £39 per month was good value. The monthly option was chosen as the car is more than likely to be going shortly and you can stop at any time.
With your annual mileage and overall miles I might be tempted to skip the warranty, but it only takes one duff ECU or similar and its paid for itself.
To put the cost into perspective Audi want £1400 for the equivalent cover on a TT.

Re: BMW Extended Warranty ???
Thanks guys, I have looked at the pros and cons and the same views/considerations have been suggested in your replies.
I pay £29 per month for my BMW K1200s and it has only done 6000miles, however the electronic suspension required replacing last year and that would have cost £1200 !
The Z4 had the gearbox replaced in December under warranty, I don't think that would have been cheap either.
As you say Jim pay monthly and you can cancel anytime.
Its all down to peace of mind I suppose.
